Famous cable car between Les Arcs & La Plagne reopens + more snow cannons for guaranteed snow
Paradiski Link Re-Opening And A New Lifts At La Plagne

The famous Vanoise Express double decker cable car that links Les Arcs and La Plagne in France, to create one of the world’s largest ski areas, Paradiski, is scheduled to reopen at the start of the season in December.

The lift had to close at the start of last winter due to a technical issue and remained closed all of the winter with a shuttle bus service replacing it. The whole ski area encompasses more than 425km of piste and an area of 10,000 hectares.

This winter, the main investment thrust is centred on piste improvements and snow production.

“After 10 years of investments in ski lifts and artificial snow, the system at la Plagne is amongst the most efficient in the world with an hourly rate of movement of around 121,056 people.” Said a resort spokesman.

However the resort has found one route to upgrade for the coming winter. In les Coches a new lift called Télébuffette will provide an inter-resort link as well as access to the beginner’s area, ice rink and shops.

In addition the resort is once again extending the surface area covered by artificial snow (from 128 hectares to 132.5 ha) and making some landscaping improvements to the pistes.

Snowmaking will also expand ion the Les Arcs side where new high-altitude reservoir in the Arc 2000 a will be operational this winter and will feed the artificial snow networks of both les Arcs and the neighbouring resort of Peisey-Vallandry. The reservoir offers a capacity of 420,000 m3, the largest of its type in France (see our new development in Les Arcs 2000: La Cime des Arcs .

Following on from this investment, new snow cannons will be erected to improve the artificial snow cover of the Maitaz and Plan Bois pistes, between 1800 and Peisey-Vallandry, meaning an extra 3.5 km (or 2.2 miles) of pistes with guaranteed snow cover.
