Les Arcs
With the introduction of the brand new connection between Les Arcs and La Plagne, Les Arcs has become one of the most talked about ski resorts in the world.
Les Arcs 2000 is located just below the Aiguille Rouge with spectacular views of the Mont Blanc, where the first and best snow falls, it is in the heart of the Les Arcs ski domain, one of the most extensive and varied ski areas of the world. The Grand Domaine of Les Arcs-La Plagne has a new name - Paradiski - and has now become one of the largest ski areas in the world, as Les Arcs and La Plagne are now linked by the longest cable car of its type ever built. The cabins are large enough for 200 people and cross the Ponthurin Vally in just 4 minutes.
Found in the Tarentaise, Les Arcs sits directly above the town of Bourg St Maurice. Although 15km by road the resort can also be reached by funicular from Bourg St Maurice. It was created by the visionary Robert Blanc in 1968, who was responsible for the revolutionary teaching method 'Ski Evolutif'. This system - where you get longer skis as you improve - is still used there today.
Skiing
One of the most extensive and varied ski domains in the world - great for all types of skiers from beginners to advanced, Les Arcs now linked to La Plagne, the new Paradiski area, offers 240 miles of pistes, including the Aiguille Rouge glacier above Arc 2000 (15 yards from the ilfts taking you there) and the Bellecote glacier in La Plagne, guaranteeing snow. Les Arc is a skier and snowboarder's heaven.
For beginners, Les Arcs is well-equipped with gentle beginner's slopes - a boon for the inexperienced.
For intermediates, Les Arcs offers fantastic tree-lined descents into Peisey Nancroix and Vallandry and a multitude of interlinked blue and red runs. We recommend you try some high altitude skiing on the Aiguille Rouge and Bellecote glaciers.
For the advanced, ski the breathtaking 4 mile black run Aiguille Rouge right the way down into Villaroger (Europe's biggest vertical drop of 2000m), pound the moguls of Dou de l'Homme or take the new 200 seater lift over to La Plagne and return off-piste through the imposing Nancroix forest.
For boarders, it has become the home of a number of snowboard pros due to superb board park and half-pipe. There are so many natural hits to play on in the Clocheret area that there is no danger of running out of things to do. There is also abundant terrain for beginners to progress on all week.
In summary in Les Arcs, there are 200km of pistes, 20 hectares of snow making, the longest run Aiguille Rouge piste is 7km is length and 2100m in vertical descent, there is 30km of cross-country skiing, 16 mountain restaurants and 60 lifts (1 cablecar, 30 chairlifts (6 high speed), 24 draglifts, 1 funicular and, 4 gondolas). There is also guaranteed snow (artificial snow) back to the resort all season long.
Located in the heart of the Savoie part of France, Arc 2000 is close to the airports of Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble, Chambéry, and Annecy. You can take the train as far as Bourg St Maurice, from where you can take the funicular railway to Arc 2000 (30 minutes)
In the press:
Buying a home overseas through leaseback can make it easy to find a dream home that's tax efficient and generates guaranteed rental income, says Savills' Susan Wright.
Life doesn't get much better than walking up to a vista of snow-covered Alps, stepping out of the door, strapping on your skies and taking off for a day on the slopes. It's why thousands of people return to the Alps every year and why they consider buying a property to rent out and use themselves. But if the thought of managing a rental property (with bookings, voids, cancellations and domestic services to deal with) puts you off then perhaps you should consider leaseback.
Through leaseback the buyer owns the freehold but leases the property back to the developer in return for a guaranteed yearly rental income. Financial analyst Michael Halliday opted for leaseback when he bought a ski in/ski out apartment in Les Arcs in the French Alps four years ago. He and his wife spend one or two weeks there each year, while lucky friends and family make the most of it during a further weeks. "We've been absolutely thrilled with it," says Halliday. "It's gone up in value hugely but the most important thing is it’s beautifully looked after and totally hassle-free."
It costs Michael nothing to furnish or keep his apartment because the leaseback company meets those costs and the rental income he receives covers most of the mortgage. "The term leaseback many be misleading or off-putting for some, but it's really just a fixed rental system," he says. "You could do just as well financially renting a property out yourself but it would be a lot more hassle."
